Yomitan Village is characterized by a large portion of land which is currently used as a United States military base. The total land area is 3,517 ha whereas the land area of the U.S. military base is 1,567 ha (sharing approximately 45% of the land in Yomitan). The utilization of the land of Yomitan can be seen in the following figures of each land category shown in the table below. In comparison with the statistical figures taken in 1980, agricultural land has increased by 217.4 ha, residential land has increased by 159.4 ha. However, the land area of forests and fields decreased by 351 ha by the year 1997.
